The Pelican Brief:
One of my favorite memories of Dad was when he took us to the Santa Cruz Wharf and we were looking at the seals. He had placed his glasses in his shirt pocket. When he leaned over the rail to look at the seals, his glasses fell out, which resulted in years of teasing how we would see seals wearing his glasses from time to time. Shortly after, a pelican landed on the rail and slowly began inching towards Dad.
He began talking to the pelican until the pelican was right in front of him. The pelican reached out and put it's beak over Dad's shoulder and gave him a hug. Dad petted him for a few minutes and he finally backed away, stretched his wings and flew away. Dad always had something special with animals, but this was one of the neatest I had ever seen.
I miss you Daddy,
Love Aerin
PS, Mom missed this because she was in the bathroom.
